21st Annual McGuire Memorial / Tony Dorsett Golf Classic

Monday, June 3, 2013

The 21st Annual McGuire Memorial / Tony Dorsett Golf Classic was held at both the Treesdale and Diamond Run Country Clubs. For the 21st year in a row the outing continues to outdo itself. Thanks to a fantastic golf committee, led by Chairperson Dan Rains, the outing set another all-time record for both corporate sponsorship and foursomes in attendance.

Perennial “Diamond” Sponsors Premier Transportation and The Hughes Group each donated $21,000 for the opportunity to play a round of golf for the benefit of McGuire’s “Entrusted Treasures.” With such leadership, the outing was a rousing success.

Celebrities in attendance, in addition to long-time friend of McGuire Memorial Tony Dorsett, were Steeler greats John Banazak, Randy Grossman, and The Honorable Dwayne Woodruff. Also in attendance were KDKA TV-2 Sports Anchor Bob Pompeani, Former Heisman Trophy and Super Bowl winner George Rogers, Gus Frerotte, John Candelaria, Grant Jackson, music legend Donnie Iris, and more than 80 other celebrities from all strata of entertainment and sports.

An extra special component of this year’s event was a guest appearance by professional long-driver Aaron Mansfield. Aaron let the bombs fly to the “oohs and ahhs” of those in attendance as he continually pelted Diamond Run’s #12 with drives consistently in excess of 400 yards.

First-place honors at Diamond Run went to On Demand Energy Solutions and at Treesdale to MarkWest Energy Partners.

An awards banquet was emceed by KDKA Radio personality Larry Richert at the Cranberry Woods Marriott, with approximately 375 golfers in attendance.

After this, the 21st anniversary of the McGuire Golf Classic, an astounding $10,000,000 has been raised to help improve the quality of life for those “Entrusted Treasures” of McGuire Memorial!

“Thank You” to all of our corporate sponsors and celebrity attendees, without whose generosity of time, talent, and treasure, this event would not exist!

First Annual McGuire Memorial Monte Carlo Night

Sunday, June 2, 2013

The inaugural McGuire Memorial Monte Carlo Night was a roaring success. WTAE TV-4 personality Andrew Stockey was the emcee for the evening and kept the mood light and engaging.

Approximately 220 people enjoyed a great evening of fun and games, and a sumptuous buffet that included beef tenderloin, turkey breast, and a fantastic array of specialty cocktails.

The crowd was entertained by the great music of “Casanova,” who kept the vibe upbeat with their very own brand of music from the ’60s, ’70s, and ’80s.

Among the celebrities in attendance were Tony Dorsett, George Rogers, John Candelaria, Grant Jackson, Tony “The Tiger” Lopez, and more than sixty other famous sports personalities.

Guests had the opportunity to play various games, at twenty-six gaming tables, with the celebrities in attendance. At the end of the evening, ten great raffle items were awarded to some of the lucky attendees.

The event was so successful that Dennis Sabatini, Executive Director of the McGuire Memorial Foundation, has already planned for next year’s event. It is scheduled to be held at the Pittsburgh Airport Marriott. The evening of fun and entertainment will be held on June 1, 2014 and will begin at 6:00PM. Please save the date and plan on joining the McGuire Memorial group for all of the fun.

Special Auction for Special People

Saturday, February 23, 2013

Our 21st annual Special Auction for Special People was held at the Westin Convention Center in Pittsburgh. More than 380 guests attended, bidding on many silent and live auction items that had been donated. A Giving Tree also provided attendees with an opportunity to support individual clients with special needs.

Thank you very much to all of you who came to this event for being so generous, and to our donors who offered such wonderful auction items. Through your support we were able to raise almost $500,000, surpassing last year’s record amount. These funds support our mission of providing comprehensive services to people with mental and physical disabilities that may include complex medical conditions and offering supportive services to their families and caregivers.
