Main Campus
McGuire Memorial's main campus, located in the Western Pennsylvania
town of New Brighton, PA, is home to McGuire's Intermediate Care
Facility for the Mentally Retarded (ICF/MR). Located in Western
Pennsylvania, McGuire Memorial has provided the region, for over
40 years, a unique program for the care of those with profound
disabilities.
Eighty-nine individuals with mental retardation, ranging in age from pre-school
children to adults, are served in this facility—individuals who are severely
and profoundly disabled, often with complex, multiple disabilities.
Interdisciplinary
A team of interdisciplinary professionals assess each individual's needs and creates a comprehensive plan of care and an active treatment plan for each individual.Twenty-four hour medical care is essential in the care of these residents, and McGuire provides round-the-clock nursing care with on-staff RNs and LPNs as well as physician availability 24-hours-a-day. Other members of the interdisciplinary team include case managers; dieticians; physical, occupational, and speech therapists; and behavior specialists who orchestrate the care, instruction, and support for each McGuire resident.
Living A Full Life
While residents of the Intermediate Care Facility for the Mentally Retarded (ICF/MR) require complex medical treatment, McGuire Memorial is not a nursing home. It is not a hospital. It is where individuals live full and active lives. It is their home.Unless a resident has a specific illness, every resident participates fully in their own daily schedules. Residents enjoy a normal rhythm of life, from eating their meals in the dining room, to attending school or adult enrichment classes, to therapy, to their evening recreation, or to community special events and outings.
Children from age 3 to 21 attend The School at McGuire Memorial, licensed by the Pennsylvania Department of Education, located within the main building on the McGuire Memorial campus.
Adults attend adult enrichment classes in the Life Enrichment Center, part of McGuire's Adult Day Programs, also located on the main campus.
As part of both programs, individuals enjoy recreational aquatics, adapted to their needs, in McGuire's
state-of-the-art pool on campus,
as well as greenhouse experiences in its 1,800-square foot greenhouse. The Spirituality Program at McGuire addresses the spiritual needs of all McGuire residents of all denominations.
